My husband & I (both fit 70 yr olds) are thinking about moving to South Tenerife from the UK (we are aware of all the hoops we have to jump through!) Often holidayed there, but,we really need to ask lots of questions & meet up with people who've experienced life there. We are in Los Cristianos from Dec 4th for 6wks & would love to meet you all ! Sylvia & Dave

We moved here in January this year after coming here for 20 years but we waited until all our family had grown up. We have settled very well we moved to a very quiet residential area but not far from Los Cristianos I am 68 and my husband is 71 we decided to rent for two years then if all is still going well we’ll sell our house in the uk and buy here so I’d say if you’re both sure go for it. Residencia takes 4 months then once you’ve been processed at the police station it takes another 45 days for your residencia card to come through you might be able to use an interpreter to do your paperwork but more and more Brit’s are having to use a solicitor mine cost €330. We’re going back to the uk for Christmas so won’t be able to meet up with you over that period so good luck

We didn’t apply for a visa we came on 2 months holiday with the intention of looking for a place to live my husband has an Irish passport so he’s an eu citizen which meant I could stay with him. He got his residencia straight away then he had to apply for mine as his wife but I only just got the residencia card last Tuesday so a total of 5 months but we’re both residents now and all the stress has gone we found a nice 2 bedroom 2 bathrooms apartment with a big terrace which is lovely the only thing is we don’t have a view of the sea just the pool but we have lovely neighbors and everyone is very friendly. We hope to get a car but before we can buy one we need to change our driving license to a Spanish one and take a written test or we can hire one. If we had bought one straight away we’d have been ok so we’re been told but over six months the law changes, we didn’t want to buy until we knew I had my residencia no point in buying if we’d had to go home and apply for a visa.

Again, thanks for the reply. Really is a good idea to rent first to check everything out, as we're so spoilt with all amenities being on our doorstep in Manchester... except the weather!!!!!
