Hi I'm 76 and I'm going to El Medano in September for a holiday. I have emphysema and each time I fly I seem to get bronchitis and I wondered if I can use my European health card to obtain a prescription for antibiotics if it happens again. I have spent over 300 euros this year for doctors after flying to Spain twice. I don't want to stop holidays.

Hi,couple yrs ago, my husband & I were in Los Cristianos for a month but wanted to stay longer,but we req more medication. Went to local pharmacy who said they could give it but with prescription Messaged our UK doctor asking if they would send prescriptions to us,obviously answered no (typical UK). Few days later,we decided to go to the North of the island for the day,went into a pharmacy there, showed the packaging, gave us the tablets there & then ( mine cost about 10€,husbands similar). Fantastic Customer Service

Thank you so much that's worth knowing. I never thought of 'phoning my doc' here in England to get a prescription emailed to Tenerife either.

Your GP may give you enough meds to last while you're away. If not,just ask if the surgery would email prescription over, If they won't, have a day in the North & take the box your meds were in, honestly, the pharmacy in the North was great Good Luck
